In a significant step to promote religious tourism and preserve Odisha’s spiritual heritage, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has announced the creation of a “Shakti Corridor” — a spiritual pilgrimage circuit that will connect all major Shakti Peeths (seats of Goddess worship) across the state. The initiative was declared during her visit to the Maa Tara Tarini shrine in Ganjam, on the final Tuesday of the sacred Chaitra month.

🛕 What is the Shakti Corridor?

The Shakti Corridor is envisioned as a comprehensive pilgrimage route, linking revered temples dedicated to the Divine Feminine in Odisha. The project aims to strengthen cultural identity, religious devotion, and tourism infrastructure in the state.

Key temples included in the corridor:

  • Maa Tara Tarini (Ganjam)
  • Maa Biraja (Jajpur)
  • Maa Ugratara (Bhubaneswar)
  • Maa Bhagabati (Banapur)
  • Maa Mangala (Kakatpur)
  • Maa Kalijai (Chilika Lake)
  • Maa Bhairavi (Rahama, Jagatsinghpur)

These shrines are historically and spiritually significant, drawing thousands of devotees annually. Once connected under a single circuit, they will form a powerful spiritual trail showcasing Odisha’s legacy as the land of Shakti Sadhana.

🚁 Helicopter Services for Devotees

To enhance accessibility and attract pilgrims from across India, the Odisha government also plans to introduce helicopter services to key temple sites. This step will ease travel for elderly devotees and boost high-value tourism in the region.

“The Shakti Corridor will offer a smooth, well-connected route for darshan and religious practices. Helicopter services are also on the cards to improve connectivity to hilltop and remote shrines,” said Deputy CM Parvati Parida.

🛣️ Project Timeline & Development Work

  • The government has set a two-year target for completing the corridor.
  • During her temple visit, Deputy CM Parida, accompanied by Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, reviewed development works underway around Maa Tara Tarini temple.
  • The project will include improved transport facilities, pilgrim amenities, lodging, and cultural showcases near each shrine.

“We will soon formally declare the project and start groundwork. This corridor will place Odisha prominently on the religious tourism map,” stated Law Minister Harichandan.

🧭 Cultural Significance and Vision

The Shakti Corridor is more than a tourism initiative—it is a revival of Odisha’s cultural and spiritual narrative. With each temple representing a unique aspect of the Divine Mother, the corridor will allow devotees to engage in rituals, pujas, and meditation while exploring the divine feminine energy (Shakti) that Odisha has preserved for centuries.

This initiative aligns with Odisha’s efforts to promote heritage-based tourism, encouraging economic development while preserving spiritual traditions.

✅ Why This Matters for Civil Services Aspirants

  • Boost to Odisha’s religious and cultural tourism
  • Infrastructure and connectivity improvement in rural and semi-urban areas
  • Preservation of temple heritage and spiritual traditions
  • Promotion of women-centered religious spaces and feminine divine worship

📌 Conclusion

The Shakti Corridor is set to become a transformative project, intertwining faith, culture, infrastructure, and economy. It not only promises to enhance the spiritual experience for lakhs of pilgrims but also reaffirms Odisha’s identity as a sacred geography of Shakti worship.
