In a major step towards strengthening the criminal justice system and forensic infrastructure in Odisha, the State Government has approved the creation of 247 posts under the State Forensic Science Services Organisation. The move is aimed at boosting scientific investigations and enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of crime detection.
👥 Post-Wise Breakup of Vacancies
According to the Home Department’s official notification, the newly sanctioned posts include:
- 🧪 Junior Forensic Attendants – 67 posts
- 🧪 Senior Forensic Attendants – 21 posts
- 🧪 Scientific Officers – 71 posts
- 🧪 Senior Scientific Officers – 65 posts
- 🧪 Assistant Directors – 20 posts
- 🧪 Deputy Directors – 2 posts
- 🧪 Director – 1 post
These posts will carry the regular pay scale, including Dearness Allowance and other benefits as per norms sanctioned by the State Government.
⚖️ Transparent Recruitment & Legal Framework
The recruitment to these posts will be conducted transparently, following the Odisha Reservation of Vacancies (ORV) Act, as amended from time to time, and in line with the relevant recruitment rules.
This initiative is a significant move towards institutionalising a scientific approach in criminal investigations, which has become essential in handling modern-day crimes like cybercrime, homicide, financial fraud, and narcotics.
🚓 36 Mobile Forensic Vans to Modernise Investigation
In a parallel development, the Odisha Home Department has also given a green signal to the State Police Headquarters’ proposal for the procurement of 36 mobile forensic vans.
These vans will be procured under the Modernisation of Forensic Capabilities Scheme and will be sourced from the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). However, the procurement is subject to the availability of funds from the Government of India.
The addition of these mobile forensic vans will:
