Odisha Faces Rising Security Threat as Bangladeshi Infiltration Racket Uncovered

A major security concern has emerged in Odisha as fresh intelligence has revealed a sophisticated Bangladeshi infiltration racket operating through Assam. According to sources, illegal infiltrators are paying large sums to cross the border and settle in Odisha with the help of middlemen and agents.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch has intensified its crackdown on this illegal network, apprehending 10 Bangladeshi nationals on March 8 in a significant breakthrough.

🚨 The Modus Operandi of the Racket

  • 🔹 Illegal Entry via Assam: Bangladeshi nationals cross the India-Bangladesh border with the assistance of middlemen.
  • 🔹 Hefty Payments to Agents: Each infiltrator pays around ₹35,000 to reach Odisha and another ₹30,000 to return to Bangladesh.
  • 🔹 Fake Identity Creation: They obtain forged Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and other documents to legitimize their stay.
  • 🔹 Safe Houses in Odisha: Infiltrators are reportedly sheltered in the house of Jagdish Das, the alleged key player in the racket.

According to STF SP Rabinarayan Satpathy, the racket has been operational for the last two years, facilitating the illegal movement of Bangladeshi nationals into Odisha and other states.

🔍 Investigation & Major Findings

The STF, during a two-day remand of Mohammad Hasim, one of the main facilitators, gathered crucial intelligence about the network. His scientific evidence-based interrogation confirmed that Bangladeshi nationals were being issued forged documents in exchange for money.

🔹 Key Findings:

  • ✔️ Fake Aadhaar and voter IDs were being created for Bangladeshi nationals.
  • ✔️ Border security loopholes were being exploited, allowing infiltrators to cross at night.
  • ✔️ The network spread across multiple states, including Delhi and Bangalore, where at least 40 Bangladeshi nationals have been identified under surveillance.

🚔 Security Measures & Crackdown

In response to this growing security threat, the STF has launched a nationwide crackdown on the network:

  • ✔️ Deployment of Special Teams in Delhi, Assam, and Bangalore to dismantle the racket.
  • ✔️ Formation of a Dedicated Special Unit within the Odisha Crime Branch to monitor infiltrators.
  • ✔️ Surveillance on suspected illegal settlers across key urban centers in Odisha.
  • ✔️ Arrests and interrogations to trace and eliminate the network’s operatives.

The authorities are working to track down individuals involved in document forgery and the middlemen facilitating these illegal entries.

⚠️ National Security Implications

The recent revelations highlight major security vulnerabilities, including:

  • 🔹 Threat to internal security as unauthorized individuals obtain Indian identification documents.
  • 🔹 Possible involvement in organized crime or anti-national activities.
  • 🔹 Strain on law enforcement agencies, leading to increased surveillance and verification needs.

Given the Supreme Court’s strict stance on illegal immigration, the Odisha government is expected to intensify its efforts to curb such activities and strengthen border control mechanisms.

🔎 Way Forward: Strengthening Border Security & Legal Measures

  • ✔️ Stronger border surveillance to prevent illegal crossings.
  • ✔️ Strict verification process for ID documents to prevent forgery.
  • ✔️ Increased inter-state intelligence sharing for tracking infiltrators.
  • ✔️ Awareness campaigns to prevent locals from unknowingly assisting illegal settlers.

The infiltration racket has exposed serious loopholes in border security and document verification processes. As the STF and law enforcement agencies continue their crackdown, Odisha remains a key battleground in India’s fight against illegal immigration.
