People also suggested another date but Mountbatten stuck to the date of August 15. Eventually a way was found with everyone’s consent and the midnight of 14 and 15 August was fixed for independence. According to the English tradition, after 12 o’clock in the night, the second day starts. In such a situation, 12 o’clock on the night of 14th is called 15th. At the same time, according to the Hindi calculation, the second day starts after sunrise.
Apart from this, a condition was placed by the astrologers that the communication of transfer of power should be completed within a period of 48 minutes, because the night of 14th was coming in Abhijit Muhurta. This 24-minute Muhurta started from 11.51 am to 12.15 pm. In such a situation, this speech was to be given till 12.39 minutes.
